Worth every penny. I bought this as a gift from an a friend who had just gotten a pasta maker attachment for their kitchen aid. It has detailed descriptions and techniques for cooking every style of pasta noodle that has ever been imagined. This should be a staple in any respectable kitchen. I am getting one for myself. It is the ultimate authority on gourmet noodles
EVERYONE needs this book, there are recipes from around the world and its beautifully written and the photos are great.
This book was a labor of love for the author to write, and a labor of love for a home-cook like me to cook through. While it is practically encyclopedic as a pasta reference book, I particularly love the way she gives you different pasta recipes for different meals and usages. For example, you have your basic pasta dough recipe for something like fettuccine, but then different proportions if you want to make Chinese egg noodles, and yet different proportions again if you want to make lasagna noodles. Once you've mastered the basics of pasta making, it is these subtleties and refinements which bring your cooking to the next level. While this book is filled with lots of mouth-watering recipes it also a chapter on preparation of basics (like béchamel sauce). There's also a section on the global history of pasta, as well as kitchen tools & machines, from required, to desired, to optional. When I bought this book it was about 70% higher in price than it is now. At the current price you should snatch this 800-page hardcover up and get cooking.
This book is absolutely amazing. Packed full of everything you ever wanted to know about pasta, and the recipes that I've already tried have been amazing. The way the author introduces each recipe is brilliant, and the recipes are explained in a way that even a very amateur cook (like myself) can follow with tremendous results. The Ultimate Pasta and Noodle Cookbook has become a permanent fixture on my counter top!
Who'da thunk it!? I had no idea so many forms of pasta were in play. I got the book last night so haven't tried anything yet. Book came a little bunged up cuz Amazon didn't pack the box good. The marker ribbons are a nice touch. Pictures of all the recipes would of been nice but far too many recipes for that. The history of pasta and the author I found interesting.
This book is delicious! I haven't counted how many recipes there are but I know it will take a few years to try every one of them. I do know where to start, though. The porcini lasagna the author talks about in her intro seems like a great place to begin. After that, every recipe makes my mouth water so I know my copy will be well worn. Yum.
Very detailed book with lots of illustrations. For a beginner at making my own pasta, I’m excited to try the new recipes. Admittedly, I can say that I didn’t even know all these types of pasta existed.
This book is big and is worth every penny! I have started to read it and plan to read it cover to cover and start my pasta journey!
